Diana Wallis the Liberal Democrat Euro MP for Yorkshire and the Humber, visited Doncaster on Friday.

Diana started her visit at the Hatfield colliery site where Powerfuels PLC has initial consent for a gas-fired power station which they will gradually convert to a coal-fired power station by 2014. The coal-fired power station should also be capturing the carbon dioxide emitted by the plant. Diana has been a long time supporter of carbon capture and storage in this region as a way of both revitalising the coal mining industry and combating climate change.

She then had a lunchtime meeting with the Civic Mayor, Councillor Paul Coddington, and leading councillors on Doncaster MBC. Later she visited the site of the proposed controversial waste incinerator development in Kirk Sandall which local Liberal Democrats are opposing.
