Local Liberal Democrat Euro MP Diana Wallis has been given an important report in the European Parliament. She has been given the job of writing the legal proposal on the issue of the banning of imports of seal products into the European Union.

Diana Wallis MEP, a Vice-President of the European Parliament, said:

"I am very glad to get this report. It is an issue which generates an enormous amount of debate not just in Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire but also right across Europe. Some countries want an outright ban whilst others recognise seal hunting is often part of a community's cultural heritage. "

Mark Glover, Director of Respect for Animals, said:

"Diana Wallis is to be congratulated on her appointment and we sincerely hope she will respond to what the people of Europe want."
